Frequently Asked Questions
What makes REBOOTING HEALTH unique?
We specialize in personalized nutrition by using your unique genetic blueprint. We strongly believe everyone is biochemically different, so the treatment will be different from person to person. Most nutritionists and alternative healthcare practitioners who provide nutritional care have a cookie cutter, one shoe fits all approach.
This approach is founded on an old model of nutrition that utilizes a trial and error approach that yields poor or at best average results. Our approach is very targeted and pin points where the problem stems from and addresses it to resolve symptoms permanently. We will be giving you what your body needs, rather than simply treating the symptoms.
What is Nutrigenomics?
The scientific study of the interaction of nutrition and genes, especially with regard to the prevention or treatment of disease.
The science of nutrigenomics and epigenetics is growing at a rapid pace. We now know, with certainty, that diet, lifestyle and environmental factors affect our gene expression. We now know that a large body of evidence and research show how each person processes nutrients uniquely.
The famous expression ‘one man’s food is another man’s poison’ is now scientifically supported. For example, certain genotypes are associated with food sensitivity such as gluten intolerance. Our vitamin D receptor genes can play a role in whether we are prone to osteoporosis, depression, and even immune dysfunction! Once we know how our bodies are built, we can address solutions; personalized solutions.
Our genes even dictate how our bodies respond to high sulfur foods like garlic and onions, and how we metabolize ammonia, estrogens, and caffeine - yes, even caffeine! Genetic information is now available to set us on a diet that is totally personalized.
Targeted supplementation that supports our specific genetic profile is now at our fingertips with nutrigenomics. You can now take your health to a level not thought to be possible until very recently.
With 23 and Me testing, you no longer need to guess what you need, you can test! Get started on learning how to optimize your nutritional needs and lifestyle today!.

What is 23 & Me Testing?
23andMe is a genetic lab test that is open to the public. It is simple saliva test done conveniently at your home. The test does not tell you that you will get certain diseases rather it is used to identify nutrients you are dependent on, and what type of diet and lifestyle modifications will improve your health and possibly prevent chronic disease in the future. The kit can be ordered on www.23andme.com It does not require a physician prescription and is not covered by insurance. Please see our 'testing' section for more information.
Am I doomed if I have bad genes?
Absolutely Not! Your genes do not dictate your destiny, they only dictate your tendency.
Think of it this way: your genes are the loaded gun and your lifestyle is the trigger. Therefore, a large part of what you do determines your health outcomes, not your genes.
I am worried about taking a genetic test and finding out what diseases I may get. Will this test tell me genetic mutations related to disease?
The genetic testing that we do does NOT tell you if you will get, for example, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, breast cancer, etc. The genes we focus on deal with the nutritional needs of the individual only.nter the answer to your question here. Be thoughtful with your answer, write clearly and consider adding examples.
Do you take insurance?
Unlike traditional medical care, at REBOOTING HEALTH, we do not treat symtpoms only. We do not treat patients through the ‘system’ that requires insurance, coding, medical necessity or diagnosis codes. In functional medicine, we treat the whole person, identify the root causes of their symptoms and chronic suffering. For these reasons, we are not ‘in network’ with insurance carriers.
How many visits will I need?
Most patients typically work with us for a few visits to uncover their needs and create their health plan, then decide if they will need ongoing nutritional consultation to achieve their goals.Enter the answer to your question here. Be thoughtful with your answer, write clearly and consider adding examples.
Can I order blood work from my physician?
Yes. I can review your most recent blood work or other lab work you provide me from your physician. I can also instruct you on what to order on your next blood work as well.
Will other lab tests be covered by insurance?
Depending on your individual needs, certain tests will be recommended for you.
Examples of Functional lab tests offered:
Micronutrient Testing (blood)
Food sensitivity test (blood test)
Hormone testing (saliva)
Neurotransmitter testing (urine)
Who do you not treat?
I do not consult individuals that are under 18 years of age, or individuals with the following conditions:
Blood clotting disorders
Severely ill patients, who are on numerous medications
Do you take payment plans?
I accept credit card payments and will work with your budget but cannot make payment plans at this time. I try to keep lab tests to a minimum, unless it’s clinically necessary or it's necessary to identify underlying cause. If you have health insurance, I will order labs covered by your insurance to keep things within your budget
How does Nutrigenomics help with sleep?
Our approach to resolving sleep issues is very unique and extremely effective. We look at specific genes that are directly or indirectly involved with quality of sleep, then we provide very specific dosages, and targeted supplementation to bypass the genetic mutations that are giving you poor sleep. Again, everyone’s sleep problems are different, the cause of the sleep problem will be different too. The key is to identify the underlying cause of sleep problems of each individual and address the problem, not the symptoms. We firmly believe that deep, restorative sleep is the pinnacle of good health. Excellent patterns of sleep, night after night, will yield health across all systems in the body and allow the body to heal.
